Is it true that Google does not crawl/index URLs that contain the `#` sign? I would presume that this is used to linked directly to a bookmark on a page, so why would this not be crawled/indexed?

YOUR ANSWERS

  • Alan Bleiweiss: Google crawls the root version of those URLs. Anything after the # is only valid to reference a section within the page, and thus does not deserve individual URL status.
  • Vishal Gupta: So, if I understand you correctly, the url will be crawled and presumably, indexed, just anything after the `#` will be disregarded.
