Dumb SEO Questions

Infinite Load Blog update.

Ive just deployed a new theme on a blog, after a week or so I looked in Google WMT and saw a huge increase in crawl errors and pages being reported as 404s. Im seeing that many old posts from this blog are now empty of content and thus 404s and I have no idea where this content has gone. Also the 404s report is showing lots of blog post urls with php code on the end and Im not sure why.

This is my blog:

http://www.thedailymind.com/

this is an example of an archived post that is no a 404 due to the content vanishing:

http://www.thedailymind.com/success/5-things-that-are-holding-you-back-in-life/

and this is an example of a post with php code added on the end:

http://www.thedailymind.com/how-to/how-to-deal-with-your-worry-and-stop-worrying-today/%3C/php%20echo%20url;?%3E

I would like to point out though that right after deploying the new theme there was a 100% increase in traffic which is weird.

Any advice appreciated!

p.s Id like to add that this new theme uses infinite load which the site didnt have before but as far as I can tell all the paging is setup correctly so that shouldnt be the problem.?

  • Alistair Lattimore: Hi David,

This is being caused by your WordPress template, it has a bug in it.

Specifically, the link used in the Other main menu item is what appears to have the fault.

Fix that up and you should see the errors drop soon enough.

  • Jim Munro: Hi David Jones. We will look at this in tonight's HOA but in the meantime, woul you mind disabling the active links? Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. :)
