  • Blade S: Ok, I took a quick peek. I've noticed that you don't have an H1 heading with your location and keyword. You don't have an H1 at all, in fact. Big mistake.

Your H2s are kind of wrong. For example, that welcoming title shouldn't be an H2, or any other heading. It's too long, it should be a plain text. And it's also spammed with "Baltimore". You could leave it H2 if you would say something like :"Welcome to your reliable Baltimore IT support".

I would use H2s on the titles of those 4 iconic texts (the blocks of content with the Read More button), and I would get rid of "Baltimore" because it's kind of spammy as well.

Avoid using bold on your keywords, it's not good, especially for users. It looks ugly, desperate, spammy, and unprofessional.

SEO is not only about search engines, it's about users as well. You can rank a site #1 on the first page and still lack conversions/customers.

Those pictures from the slider are kind of stretched, not so professional. I, as a potential customer, look at these kind of things, and I'm sure others do as well. Details matter.

Your site reflects your business, so it should be looking nice and professional if you want to convert users into customers.

I usually don't recommend sliders or carousels for many reasons, but that's another story.

Also, I would remove the phone number from your page title.

This is what I spotted at first glance, but I'm sure other improvements can be made. Maybe other SEOs here will discover more.

  • Dave Elliott: the first question is rank for which phrase on the first page of google?
  • Brian Lichtig: Yes How about Baltimore IT Support?
  • Dave Elliott: Okay first impressions:

1: your page title.  ;No need for Baltimore to appear twice.  ;"Baltimore Computer Solutions"  ;is perfectly fine. Or "IT Support by Baltimore Computer Solutions"  ;or something.

2: Your slider. Seriously only use two transitions max, it all gets a bit high school powerpoint presentation otherwise.

3:  ;As mentioned above you are spamming the hell out the word baltimore. It reads badly, so cut em down drastically!

4:  ;having a look at your local listings(or my local business or whatever google are calling it this week) there seems to be a lot of missing information from it, fill it out and this will help a fair bit.

5: The main services quick links at the bottom. Again spamming balitmore. Google will have a real problem with this tactic!

6: Alt text on the read more buttons just says read_more_button. Change this to something more relevant!
  • Mach Page Speed: My two cents - these are what I do first before doing any changes. You need to know where you are to know where you need to get to:

    1) Run your page through w3c validator and you will find your home page has 24 error's and 5 warnings.

    2) Run your site through webpagetest(dot)org.  ;Your current page speed is 46% out of a 100% and Document Complete is running anywhere from 5 - 8 seconds and should be closer to 1.5 - 2 seconds.

    3) Look at your images closely. Are they compressed, sized correctly. Make sure your html alt, height, width attributes are filled in. Name your images something relevant to what the picture is.
  • Brian Lichtig: How come no one likes sliders anymore?
  • Dave Elliott: sliders are fine when relevant, but it is important to ask the question is this achieving anything that couldn't be done with a static image, and use less transitions!
