  • Neil Cheesman: Given the scenario that we sell a product - would it be better to have the inventory (generally widely available as same content due to the market) - would it be better to have the selling/buying of the products on our sub-domain (trying to grow our brand) or separate domain (as the major brand)?
  • Michael Stricker: Separate domain with its own resources and reason for being, for classification purposes. Unable to carry link equity across bounds but that makes sense, or every domain would build out sub-domains for inbound linking purposes. Treat any redirection and canons as you would cross-domain. Blogs and other relevant content perform better for SEO when in same domain. Payment processing, account profiles and other sensitive matters can easily exist as a healthy subdomain.
  • Neil Cheesman: Supposing I am selling iPhones - is it better to have buyiphone.neildotcom or buyneiliphone.appledotcom - ie.. develop my own brand OR piggyback sell on the back of Apple`s brand name?
