Dumb SEO Questions

(Entry was posted by Chris M Cloutier on this post in the Dumb SEO Questions community on Facebook, 10/10/2014).

Blog post management.

Recently I`ve made some changes on my blog. I want to be able to exclude a category from the blog page. In order to do that I have to create an "all" category to catch all my posts, except for the private ones.

If I do that the majority of my posts will be in two categories. I`ve always kept my posts in one but I don`t have much of a choice now.

Can I no-index the "all" category and be ok??

Edwin Jonk: So a post is in two categories: a specific category and the "all" category.

Some people do noindex all the category pages, however I think it may be a good landing page for searchers. Therefore I keep the category pages in the index.

In this case, I would noindex the "all" category because the searchers would be better of at the specific category.
  • Chris M Cloutier: +Edwin Jonk ;Yep, that's that's right - 1 post in two categories. I definitely like to have my categories indexed because like you said, they are great for searchers.

    Thanks for the input.
