The best strategy to target other countries from well ranked local domai

I have a website that`s doing really well in India with the .in domain. It doesn`t rank globally. So, now I am rolling out the .com version as well, to target countries like the U.S.A and the U.K. What`s the best strategy for this? Should I redirect my .in domain to .com domain? I have a lot of customers from India, and the rankings are pretty good as well. I don`t want to lose those. Or should run two different versions, one for India and one for the rest of the world? Thank you

YOUR ANSWERS

Selected answers from the Dumb SEO Questions Facebook & G+ community.

  • Paul Thompson: This is a major business strategy decision first, then an SEO question. Business strategy should ALWAYS drive technical decisions, not the other way around. Making this decision without proper analysis will do you serious harm.
  • Francois-Pierre Marcil: I would keep the in, until the US-UK is rolling. Never put all your eggs in the same basket.
  • Dan Sylvester: I would run two different versions of the site (.com and .in)with hreflag annotations set and trying to grow SEO on the .com site and then migrate domains. Do not rush this and like Paul Thompson said business strategy first.
  • Marcus Pentzek: What Francois and Dan say.
