If I make a 301 redirect from the old site to the new one, would it impact on my ranking?

I have two websites with the same content, I have an old one in the first place of Google results and a new web page which doesn’t appear, but it is the best web site and I want to ranking this one. If I make a 301 redirect from the old site to the new one, it would have any impact on my ranking. I hope I explained well. Thank you.?

  • Kyle Brigham: Any time you redirect from one website to another you will always run the risk of losing some rankings.  ;If you were to go this route, you are correct in placing a 301 redirect as this will tell Google that you are permanently moving your website. Assuming you have the exact same content on both websites, you should be able to make the transfer relatively easily. However, you should make sure that all of your redirects are pointing to the correct pages and not just directing all pages of your old site to the homepage of your new site. You want a one to one relationship to maximize results. So to answer your question, it may very well have an impact on your rankings, but if it is the better website for your customers/users, that is really what Google is pushing for right now so you should be able to ease the blow.
