  • Pau Lica: From my experience, social media doesn't bring much traffic to your website. Tons of posts are shared every day, yours just gets lost among them.
If you want to increase your chances, start writing more catchy posts like: How To's; The Ultimate Guide To ...; Skyscrapers (e.g 50 ways to ..., 75 things you should know ..., etc.); This type of posts tend to get a lot more clicks. Check BuzzFeed.com to get an idea.
Now, after you got the users' attention with your title, make sure you have great in-depth content (2k+ words). In-depth content is shared a lot more. For example, if you write a guide, make sure you explain everything in detail, you use images and videos (making your own video is even better), etc.
Another important thing is to check your competition. See what they've wrote that was so good, and then just do it better.
Content marketing isn't easy, it requires a lot of time, effort, and creativity. Some have all these things, and they eventually become an authority on social media.
While social media is still important, I recommend you focus more on your website's SEO: on-page optimization and backlinks. The best traffic still comes from the first page of Google.
  • David Friedman: You need subscribers to your site and once you get subscribers you notify them of new relevant posts and the traffic will pour in.
  • Harry Dance: +Pau Lica ;is completely correct.and +David Friedman ;, however I did want to give you a few tips because the best traffic will come from organic and direct, that is a fact.

To get this type of traffic, you will need a bit of a content strategy . But like social media your aim should be to amplify your content, you should be approaching people and building relationships with fellow bloggers/ website users, which in the process will amplify your brand and the content you want to promote. i.e give them advice, compliment them on there content/ website. Little things make all the difference.
The idea of it being a dog eat dog world is wrong, it's all about building relations, especially if you want to ;build links naturally. However as stated +Pau Lica ;and +David Friedman ;is spot on with his advice.
