How Google May Diversify Search Results by Merging Local and Web Search Results

High Ranking Local Result + High Ranking Web Result = High Ranking Combined Local Result.

Will Google merge web listings with local listings? A Google patent published this spring points at the possibility, with a high ranking web listing in response to a query merged with a local listing for that query, to make search results more diverse.

Another aspect of this is that the combined local result may rank more highly within the local results displayed, to help move higher quality results further up on a page.
