  Michael Martinez: Fiifi Otabil I`ve never lost rankings from changing URLs. I don`t know what people did to themselves that they would have lost rankings in the past. Just make sure the old URLs redirect to the new ones.

  Richard Hearne: I would never change URLs without a very good reason. It always introduces risk imo, and unless there is an obvious and known benefit to changing URLs wholesale, I`d say it`s rarely worth doing. YMMV.

  Google is REALLY clear about this. Don`t do it if you don`t have too, and the advice is YEARS old:

  And on the contrary, I have DOZENS of clients who changed URLs and had ranking drops. Even with redirects.
  
  Your basically wiping out all the earned history of your URLs sitewide. So yes, that`s a valid concern.
