  • David Ogletree: We make our websites using php. I get people off of WP. WP is junk.
  • Jeremy L. Knauff: Apples to oranges
  • Neil Cheesman: There are SO many junk/out-of-date plugins... needs to be some sort of quality control or archive
  • Peter Mead: Dreamweaver. Haha. What about Frontpage scripts. Haha
  • Neil Cheesman: The thing I liked most about dreamweaver - is/was having control... and not being so dependent.... that said.. the plugins and devices are so different now...
  • Roger Montti: Someone in another FB group mocked the concept of a pure HTML page and I commented not to knock it because it serves up lightning quick. I have an old site on pure HTML that I`d forgotten about. Visited it and was stunned at how fast it loaded, even larded down with AdSense ads. I`m talking about a blink of the eye quick. What`d be cool is to have all the editing function of WP but it uploads to a static HTML page with minimal JS and zero calls to Google for extra code. I know ecommerce needs flexibility and whatnot but it seems like some of that functionality, the database calls and the search could be offloaded to a back end while keeping as much as possible simple and static. Seems like developers are too happy to solve problems by larding on the code. You know what`s laughable? Someone asks a question on StackOverflow and the answers consist of reams of extra code and edits to php files when a simpler solution like editing two lines of code on the template solves the problem. It`s like coders WANT to make things more difficult.
  • Neil Cheesman: It almost seems like coders, developers etc have got a little lost along the way.... all-singing-all-dancing websites that take half a day to load....
  • Alan Bleiweiss: Dude. Dreamweaver? Hahahaha wow. Back in my day, it was text editors and HTML 1.0 basics. No data integration, no widgets, no fancy wysiwyg editors. Pages loaded lightning fast (as far as 14.4k modems went) :-)
