Removing pagesfrom Google index

Anyone any advice how to deal with this... a co.uk domain was registered along with .com several years ago... the co.uk domain has always been the one with the content on it and the .com variation as `always` been redirected to the .co.uk I noticed today that in Google index the .com variation (ONLY the homepage) is also shown in the index. When looking at the cached `view source` the co.uk url is shown and content etc. Not sure how this has happened... but now how to remove from Google index - as my guess is that IF submit to remove Google will `say` there is live content.... The .com variation isn`t listed in WMT as it has never had content on it... Any suggestions how best to deal with this?

  • Jim Munro: Check the redirect to be certain it is not 302?
  • Gareth Daine: 301 redirect the .com to the .co.uk.
  • Neil Cheesman: Or.. should Google automatically drop the .com out of the index....
  • Alan Bleiweiss: And as long as a proper (confirmed 301) redirect is in place, there`s no need to do anything else.
  • Alan Bleiweiss: Is the URL inidexed, or the home page entirely, with content? The cache implies just the URL. If so, does the .com URL have the "robots.txt" description about being blocked?
  • Neil Cheesman: Getting on to it... sounds like the 301 wasn`t set up correctly or hasn`t worked somewhere along the line...
  • Neil Cheesman: it is ONLY the url in the index.... the cache is the co.uk
  • Jenny Halasz: If 301 is set up properly and it still shows up as .com, check the backlinks... Maybe the majority of them are to .com. Not a problem if that is the case, but it would explain why G prefers the .com.
