Will removing the landing page hurt our SEO?

The company I work for recently acquired a similar business; however, as the story goes the relationship has gone south and the business owner is no longer with us and is, instead, opening up a new business within proximity to ours. Will removing the landing page that has his information hurt our SEO? Is it best to route his LP to our site? Or is it okay to remove it altogether?TIA!

  • Stockbridge Truslow: This is one of those things where the SEO strategy really needs to follow the brand strategy, and the legal realities involved.

Yes. Removing that page with the branding (and any value that brand may have in terms of search volume and recognition in the area) will hurt SEO because you won`t be able to capture those anymore. But... if it`s a brand under his personal name or if there are other legal issues in the way... using that branding at all may not be allowed. So...

My advice is to dig into the reality of the situation. Talk to the lawyers (or make sure your contact with the company has an understanding of the situation) and figure out how you want to position things. And then it`s maybe a brand merge strategy or something else. Hard to say without more details.
