Does the subdomain has the same authority as the main website?

Question: Does the subdomain has the same authority as the main website? I mean the time period of ranking will be the same if we do SEO for blogs.example .com instead of example .com/blog. My developer said we cant create example.com /blog because of some coding language barrier so we have to get a new subdomain.

  • Michael Martinez: I use subdomains all the time for technical reasons. They do just fine in search. As Stockbridge Truslow says, you only need to interlink them as you would a subfolder and root folder.

  • Josh Levenson: Depends how it`s set up from main site.

  • Ash Nallawalla: Just look at the Blogspot dot com websites - all are subdomains and do not rank better than each other, although it would be hard to compare against the parent domain. I hold the view that Google treats each subdomain as a separate website, so you would need to have a separate SEO effort for the subdomain.

Ask your developer if they can use a reverse proxy to make the blog appear to be a folder.
