RSS feeds and sitemap

I don`t understand why Google is saying that use RSS feeds and sitemap both while we can update our sitemap and add new pages anytime..?

  • Tony McCreath: The main advantage is they are short and contain only recent URLs.Google may crawl them quicker because they know them to be new.

    Especially if they support pubsubhubub which means you can notify Google of new URLs in realtime.

  • Tony McCreath: +Saurabh Rawat ;No, Google will also consider it new if they have not seen it before. However they may re-check an rss feed more frequently as that is designed to only contain new stuff.

    Note that being in either file does not guarantee it will get crawled quickly.
