Maybe I am misunderstanding this article, I am happy to be wrong, but it seems to me that this is a proprietary solution that Google has "gone it alone" on. That`s not useful, Google.

I`m still certain that 2 step authentication  is the first thing every user should implement but I`m equally certain that implementing anything that works only on Google is a bad thing.

Do you trust Google? I used to but I don`t any more. What we see today is not the organisation that we all fell in love with.
