Dumb SEO Questions

Google+ pages.

Another question for the panel (and the community), this one about Google+ pages.

To appear as a A-G pin on the Google maps that accompany many local searches, you need a Google+ Local page.

Should local businesses have a Google+ Local page AND a Google+ Business/brand page?

Should the customer`s website link to *BOTH* pages with a rel="publisher"?

If so, I assume that businesses should use their Google+ Business/brand page to interact on Google+ and just have their Google+ Local page for the Google maps and customer testimonials??

  • Masatake Wasa: Generally speaking, if you have a single-location business, then I would concentrate on the local Google+ page, since I cannot see any convincing reason to maintain two Google+ pages that would essentially be duplicates. For businesses with multiple locations spread across a large area, it would be a different matter, and a brand page would make sense. I think the most difficult cases are those where businesses have a couple to a few locations.
  • Rotimi Orimoloye: I'd say you merge the two pages. ;
    It becomes a "My business page", it retains the local business attributes, and you may bring in all of your followers from the brand page.
    I did this for a client recently, and the page looks really cool.
