Dumb SEO Questions

Redirecting existing URLS to new content.

I`m getting ready to make a big change moving my old site over to its new home. Now my main concern are the redirects.

Question: Do you think it`ll be best if I move my old pages over to the new domain without changing any content and urls or redirect the existing URLS to my new content that`s relevant to what I had before? I`m sure I`ll leak of some juice but I`d like to get some honest feedback before doing anything.

I want to make sure that I`m not ...... myself. Move it or lose it?

  • Tony McCreath: My vote is to do it all in one go, straight to the new content. Keep it simple for yourself and the bots
  • Lena Ruchko: Hello  Justin!  I would redirect old content to the old content with new URLs and new content would be just new content without linking old pages to it. Here is a great article from Moz describing their latest experience with moving domains - I think it will come handy in your case http://moz.com/blog/domain-migration-lessons
