Rankings can fluctuate after making manual changes to a web page

Hi, I have a Wordpress travel site and each location/product page randomly generates links (with image, title, price) to 3 related pages under the main content. Is this good for SEO or does it create problems that I`m not aware about. I ask this because have noticed that rankings can fluctuate after making manual changes to a web page, therefore if the page appears to change every time Google spiders it, Google will be constantly trying to recalculate the ranking position which may have a negative effect.Would it be better to manual choose 3 related pages and make them permanent i.e. not randomly changing?

  • Greg Baka: It would not be the "linked from" page that fluctuates because of changes to it`s outgoing internal links. It would be the pages that it links to, because the strength transferred to them by internal links keeps randomly changing.
IMO, it would be much better to use 3 semi-permanent links. Probably 2 pointing to pages that are especially useful to your readers, and 1 to a related page that needs a little strength boost.
By "semi-permanent" I meant that they should be re-evaluated occasionally (couple times a year?) and modified if a better choice becomes available.
    Hope this helps :-)
  • John Tulley: +Greg Baka Hi, Thats good advice, it`s something thats been nagging at me for some time, (btwI`m using Woocommerce). I will look to change them for 3 semi-permanent links but since I have around 620 products it`s going to be a massive ammount of work. I`ll need to work out some kind of strategy to decide which products I should point to.
    Thanks for your help :)
