Self inserted ratings on a website

Hello,

I have a question regarding self inserted ratings on the website. One of the website from our industry shows up with 5 stars in google search result ( 5, 249 votes). What they have done is just insert teh folloiwng code in their website header

{
"@context" : "http://schema.org",
"@type" : "Organization",
"name" : "--"
"logo":"---",
"description": "--",
"url": "---",
"image" : "--",
"telephone" : "---",
"email" : "",
"address" : {
},
"aggregateRating" : {
"@type" : "AggregateRating",
"ratingValue" : "4.9",
"ratingCount" : "5249"
},

}

Now this is crazy. They just made up 4.9 rating with 5, 249 votes on their own and google not only beleives them by also displays this information in the search results. So Techinally I can insert the microdata showing 5.0 ratign with 100, 000 votes and google will happily show this ?

  • Akash Jain: Thank you Tim. So Google is watching. I was confused if I should do the same thing for my website, but now its clear that its best to be honest and only have genuine ratings .
