Moving to https/SSL

moving to https What do you need to do in WMT Google search Console? do you add another site like you did with non www. sites then set as prefered after moving to ssl?   Moving to SSL I have a few dumb questions that after reading more i`m still a little unsure of
1)Should you keep the old files on the http server and change the canonical to https or should you just delete them and leave an Htaccess with 301 redirect on a page per page basis?
2) If I have links to photos as /photo/image1.png is this correct, it will call the file from the https server?
3)Really dumb now! When hosting company sets up SSL am i correct in thinking it is basically another server separate to the one used with all files on the http address?
