Is the $300 review fee and annual subscription to the Yahoo Directory worth the money?

I have a question: Is the $300 review fee and annual subscription to the Yahoo Directory worth the money for a site that makes good money (enough to live on), but always wants better positioning. Your thoughts on the quality of this directory (the inner-pages are not showing PR) and your overall feeling about the value of directory submissions would be so much appreciated.

  • Morten Madsen: Dunno about the value for money aspect for sure, but I would do it.
    However, as far as I recall they don't accept casino related sites, in which case it's $600 down the drain
  • Jared Bates: No, they do have listings for gambling and online casino sites, as well as "adult" ones too. +Morten Madsen ;Thanks, that's +1 for id do it. I am leaning toward doing it more.
  • Morten Madsen: Really? Is that something new?
    Either that or I was blind when I checkede.
  • Jared Bates: Not sure, but here ya go ;http://dir.yahoo.com/recreation/gambling/ :) maybe newish? Edit: I did the deed, and feel nervous about losing $300 but excited to see if it will be accepted.
  • Dave Elliott: If you search for a web directory yahoo is 24th.(well for me on my phobe right this second) Where do you think an individual business listing comes in a serp for a keyword you will remotely care about. Is that worth $300 a year to your business or would it be better served sending out an email campaign or an ad in a local paper? Or umm lots of other things.
  • Jared Bates: https://www.google.com/search?q=web+directory&rlz=1C1CHKD_enUS411US489&oq=web+directory&aqs=chrome.0.69i57j69i65l2j69i61j0l2.2690j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Yahoo Directory 4th - In fact it is showing the relevant results of news and media directories in the Yahoo directory meaning Google understands whats there to say the least...
  • Dave Elliott: try it with an unpersonalised search! (add '&pws=0' to the end of your search string)
    e.g ;https://www.google.com/search?q=web%20directory&pws=0 (i did mine on co.uk)

    Its also a rubbish directory. ;

    Wikipedia: Online Casinos ;
    Discusses online casinos, how they compare to traditional casinos, games offered, signup bonuses, fraudulent sites, cheating software, and related issues.
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Online_casino

    $300 a year? For that? No page authority, no moz rank(page rankish) or anything else of any benefit. ;
  • Jared Bates: Even when searching using the pws=0 tag it still shows up in the 4th position as a deep link to their news and media directory listings. I am not arguing, and I appreciate the new tag I can use :) but I am wondering why it looks different to me than to you.

    Can someone else please search for "web directory" on google and tell me if you see a deep link to the Yahoo directory around 4th or not. Seems odd to me +Dave Elliott ;and thanks again for the unpersonalized search info!
  • Morten Madsen: Try www.impersonal.me
    It gives you the possibility to search from any Google TLD - and get results that aren't influenced by your own search history
  • Jared Bates: Ok so I searched using the link above and found it to be showing up on the first page from just about every country I start with, including Sweden... the swede's never lie!! ;http://dir.yahoo.com/news_and_media/ shows up on the first page everywhere I look, using different browsers and your links. Why am I the only one seeing it, or can someone else please confirm they see this link when searching for "Web Directories"
  • Morten Madsen: I get it as fifth after dmoz when searching from US +Jared Bates ;
  • Pixelar Diseño Web: ninth when searching from Mexico
