Yesterday we announced this really (really!) cool new search feature: in-depth articles search results.
Its idea is actually very simple: Some searchers want to learn about a broad topic and we want to help them by surfacing high quality in-depth content.
These results are generated algorithmically and webmasters can improve the chances of their articles appearing in the search results by helping us understand their content better. The key points:
1. Use full schema.org Article markup like the headline, an image, and the article body, and also Organization markup (details ), especially to designate the logo.
2. Provide authorship markup.
3. Paginate correctly! Unsurprisingly, in-depth articles tend to need multiple pages, and I keep seeing webmasters implement pagination incorrectly, which hurts their indexing and now has knock-on effects for the in-depth articles search results.
