How many H1`s per page?

Hi guy`s, one question from me. This was has dumbfounded me a bit, our webdesign agency has recently stated that two H1`s per page is the new way a website should be created to allow a more efficient page optimization. Is there any truth to this? if so is there an article I can read??

  • Harry Dance: Never mind ; I found this comment, it depends which HTML version you are using. If it's HTML4 or XHTML, only use one h1 per page, but if you are using HTML5 you can have one per section. So you could have one in your <nav>, on in your <article>, one in each of the <aside>s on your page and one in your <footer>.
  • Federico Sasso: Contrary to common belief, an HTML4 document with more H1s is still a valid document.
Yes, HTML5 sections encourage using more of them, but from an SEO perspective I don't think much as changed yet.
Having more H1s - from an SEO standpoint - means splitting their relative value.
I'd still recommend, for now, to only have one per page.
Not a big deal, though; you can have two or more if it makes sense to your page structure, and be happy with it.
  • Harry Dance: Appreciate the help +Federico Sasso ;. Thank you!
