Dumb SEO Questions

How long will it take to rank my site?

Hello all...new here. So I have a question you`ve probably heard a million times but probably also have seen a million different answers. So here it is:

My site will be 1 month old in 7 days. I write strictly 1000+ word business advice articles. So far search traffic has been virtually zero with the exception of some I got from adwords credits. So in your experience, if I am doing and following correct SEO practices and the long tail formula, roughly how long will it take for such a site to start getting at least 50-100 organic visits a day??

  • Gordon Robinson: What's your site ?
  • Tapiwa Mapani: dailyhustlers.com

I did a site:dailyhustlers.com in google. Most of the pages that showed were tag and category pages. I dug through several pages before I found any of your content pages.

Not sure what this means, but it kinda smells bad to me?

At first glance it looks like you have the on page stuff. I see the titles, the markup, the social, the internal linking...

Maybe it's just that you're in a really competitive niche? There are some pretty heavy duty sites in that area...

Just for me... I think you could make the text darker, but I don't think G cares much about that. :)
  • Tapiwa Mapani: I did notice how the tag and category pages somehow are appearing way before the content. I don't really know why that's happening though.

And the niche is a competitive one so I guess will have to wait and see how the rankings go with time.

And thanks for the text color advice.. I was actually thinking along the same lines! :)

I took this title 7 Things to Ask Yourself When Deciding to Work For Free and entered it in G, where you are #6. #1 with "quotes."

I don't see any authorship markup? 3 of the 5 above you have markup with pics.

I'm starting to think a G+ presence is actually helpful (more than Facebook) and the authorship/publisher markup might help with that.
  • Tapiwa Mapani: Thanks for great help +Greg Mee!

And I think a Google+ presence is definitely something that's contributing more and more to rankings.

And my articles should have authorship markup but a previous bad theme I was using stripped that data out! So I'm hoping I correctly fixed the matter so that next time the old posts are crawled they'll reflect the authorship info and help me do better in search!

Do you have a dedicated G+ page for your site? That might help.

Also, Google has its own SEO guide that's probably worth a look: http://static.googleusercontent.com/media/www.google.com/en/us/webmasters/docs/search-engine-optimization-starter-guide.pdf
  • Tapiwa Mapani: Yes I created a dedicated G+ page. Now I'm just working on getting word out about it.

And thanks so much for the SEO guide. I'll read it as meticulously as I can since it is by Google meaning that if I can give them what they want surely I'll eventually land in good graces with search :)

Just remember that you're in a very competitive area. It's gonna take work. :)

    As to your G+ page... there's a lot of killer "how to G+" stuff floating about, all free. +Mervik Haums, for example, has some great stuff. Check it out. ;
  • Greg Mee: Oh, one more thing. Maybe, just maybe, especially in an area that tends to be a bit spammy, Google might take a while to rank posts from a new blog. I think age matters a bit.

Not at all sure though, just something that popped into mind.

Basically, if you like the niche, just keep plugging away. :)
  • Tapiwa Mapani: Thanks for the advice! And yeah the nich is super competitive but I'm hoping the long term strategy I'm employing will pay off one day! Just need to make sure I do things correctly in these early stages.
