Dumb SEO Questions

(Entry was posted by Sara Thompso on this post in the Dumb SEO Questions community on Facebook, 06/05/2014).

Duplicate content and press releases.

Hello! I`m looking for some feedback on duplicate content.

We have a client who has a press release on their website. They want to "re-purpose" this press release and use it as a blog, which will also live on their website. The blog they have submitted to us has about 50% of the same content as the press release. This blog is also structure differently.

Is it okay to post this on the website or will it be viewed as duplicate content?

Thanks for your help!?

    The cuetimes listed on this page are functional while the live broadcast continues and also once Youtube has finished processing the public broadcast. Processing time varies between 6-24 hours. During this period the clip is viewable in full but the cuetimes cannot be relied on. ;

  • Richard Foulkes: you could do it if you used a canonical tag (rel=canonical) to tell Google the press release is the original content, you won't get penalised for this and you'll be following correct guidelines! Just make sure the blog has the correct canonical tag in the <head> section.
