  • Shikha Shukla: Google doesn`t penalize for long urls but Google truncate URL if it go beyond 80 characters. It can effect your Click through rate.

  • Stockbridge Truslow: First we need to consider the word "Penalize". That means you have something and then it is taken away. It`s a "penalty" which is defined as: a punishment imposed for breaking a law, rule, or contract.

Just as in sports... you are not penalized for not scoring - you just won`t likely win the game.

So... while it`s safe to say that by definition, there is no "Penalty" for long URLs,

Google has talked about length of URLs though - a general limit of 1, 000 - but even that can be worked around by their systems. And the only place it really comes into play in the ranking thing is when talking about canonicalization.

So... no penalty... but don`t go making crazy long URLs either. https://www.searchenginejournal.com/does-url.../425230/...
