So I`ve been looking into the effect of #301Redirects on #SEO since my website is constantly adding 301 redirects. We have data on the site that becomes inaccurate and my internal team here has decided that they should be removed from the site. We cover a certain time span and once data exceeds our span, the data is no longer reliable.
From what I`ve been told in the past is that too many 301 redirects are bad for SEO. I found a video from +Matt Cutts where he explains 301 redirects and it appears that they have no limit on how many a site can have. They have a cap on how many linking 301 chains there are though.
I`ve thought about putting expiration meta data in my page but that only expires from #SERP. If my expired page is linked on someone else`s site, they`d still be able to land back on my site so if it`s to be deleted, I think a 301 redirect is still necessary.
So, what`s your take on this? Is Matt giving us a good tip here or just throwing us SEOs for a loop?
