What would you do to improve rankings and or traffic?

I`m working on an aged site (10 years) with very good traffic and good on-site. But it only has 750 good quality domains linking to it. What would you do outside of on-site to improve rankings and or traffic?

  • Perry Bernard: Develop a content strategy that is shared strategically with the intent to earn links. Also run paid campaigns that raise brand awareness to lift brand search and CTR. Actually any campaigns that drive brand inbound search will start the ball rolling.

  • Solomon Hohenheim Tesla: That`s very interesting, but what do you mean by that? For example like media campaigns on news sites and such?

  • Perry Bernard: Solomon Hohenheim Tesla any campaigns that spark demand in your niche and that transfer to google search for discovery. Lift your CTR from organic search. Check that your page 1 ranked results are in fact rendering well, i.e. your titles and descriptions, url path, breadcrumb, knowledge panel, GMB, all those things in practical terms not just theoretical on page.

  • Perry Bernard: Don’t forgot that how a page renders snippets in search may differ from the SEO settings you’ve done for that page. A description for example is NEVER perfect. Titles are more reliable but still not entirely so.

  • Solomon Hohenheim Tesla: Thank you! I`ve asked this question in many groups and your answers makes the most sense of all so far

  • Perry Bernard: Solomon Hohenheim Tesla also your aim to grow links should be done carefully. You should try to get people to want to link to your content. That can be tough! Sharing great content through social can be a place to start. Because I don’t know what niche you’re in i have no idea what strategy you might use. But basically brainstorm for something that could work, and be prepared to try several tactics over a decent amount of time. Earning links is slow.

  • Perry Bernard: Solomon Hohenheim Tesla I don’t have all the answers and nobody can be 100% correct in this field. It’s about trying things.

  • Solomon Hohenheim Tesla: Perry Bernard the niche I`m in is RV heaters and solar panels my friend. And yes I`ve discussed this with my dad (been doing digital marketing for over 10 years) and he says the same thing you do. But it`s hard to get the users to mention the brand/product. Social is a good place to start though!

  • Solomon Hohenheim Tesla: Perry Bernard Indeed all of digital marketing is about trying, experimenting and trying again

  • Jim Munro: If the site already has very good traffic, good onsite and an honest link profile I`d be afraid of messing it up. Other than Perry Bernard`s excellent responses above, I would focus on improving the UX with slow and gentle split-testing.
