We saw a surge of traffic

Guys, I updated this e-comm without any backlinks with e-comm directories. Some didn`t even make sense to me to be honest (we still did it as I wasn`t overseeing the project) We saw a surge of traffic. From 250 to 900+ in about 2-3 months` time. I also did a thorough on page as well. Question: Why did we experience such a boom in traffic? Little Context about other marketing efforts: We have 0 social media and PR exposure, so that`s not it. Reasons I`m Asking: I don`t want google to bite me back in the butt a couple of months later. So the more I understand, the better. My 2 cents on the matter: Competition has a lot of backlinks from spammy, PBN sites. Could it be that we being the lesser of all the evil in the niche got us the boost as we weren`t deceiving anyone or violating the spam/link purchase update? What I Did: Added my site to a bunch of e-commerce directories

Richard Hearne: I`ve been doing SEO for ~20 years now, and these days there are countless shifts in organic traffic that I cannot explain to clients. I just hold up my hand and say "I don`t know".

Even Googlers say that the complexity of what we`re now dealing with is beyond the comprehension of their engineers working on search. The most likely reason for your observed traffic increases is probably a group of changes across multiple dimensions.
El Bikito: Richard Hearne I full agree. I cannot stresss this enough. SEO is not a basic child`s play where u put KWs, and get a few links. XD

Well I do know we had no paid or social marketing, neither did we have any affiliate channels.

I simply added my site to a few e-commerce directories. Dassit.
Stockbridge Truslow: You told us what you didn`t do, but didn`t tell us what you DID do. The answer to the improvement is almost certainly somewhere in there.

So I basically added my site to a bunch of e-comm directories.

We have 0 social, affiliate and paid marketing going on. So the only change in months was the directories i added. :S
