  • Michael Martinez: I`m not sure that is enough detail for us to understand what problem you`re trying to solve. As far as "SEO purposes" goes, there`s no generic formula that fits every situation.

If you`re selling 12-packs of toilet paper, it doesn`t do much good to compete for queries about 4-packs. Sure, you might pique some potential buyers` interest, but you`d annoy most people if you succeeded in ranking for the wrong query.

If that`s not what you`re trying to do, we definitely need a little more information.

  • Jason Wells: Michael Martinez ok so hopefully I can clarify

When I`m doing my research on my products in the Google shopping marketplace, I search for a keyword and often see products ranking higher because of the price, when you click on the offer is always the cheapest version but you can choose then the version you want, I guess it`s like a loss leader, it shows up the cheapest in shopping but doesn`t tell you it`s the 1 device 1 years version

Is that because they have variable or grouped products instead of single?

  • Michael Martinez: Jason Wells I don`t know the answer to that. Hopefully someone else can shed some light for you.

  • Travis Bailey: Say you sell just straight red widgets and blue widgets, there`s no need to make another product page for each minor variation. So you would more than likely want to choose a variable product approach, where you have a product page dedicated to widgets. Then you give the customer an option of Red or Blue.

I`m not really sure what e-commerce platform you`re using. But single/variable/group product categorization is more how the platform handles your product listings.

If you`re selling different devices, that have significant differences from other devices - you may want to go with either single products, or variable products. Grouped products are basically just upsells... not much to be concerned about unless the platform is `going off the rails` somehow.

Withouth knowing the platform, and without knowing the products, I can generally say those product types are more about how products are sold to a customer. Less about some SEO ecommerce sauce.

  • Jason Wells: Travis Bailey sorry should have added that I am using WooCommerce
