URL structure for countries with several languages:
www.productname.com/country/language/
Hugo Boss
http://www.hugoboss.com/ch/de
http://www.hugoboss.com/ch/fr/
http://www.hugoboss.com/be/nl/
http://www.hugoboss.com/be/fr/
www.productname.com/country-lang/
SAP
http://go.sap.com/canada-fr/
http://go.sap.com/canada/
http://go.sap.com/belgique/
http://go.sap.com/belgie/
Adobe
http://www.adobe.com/lu_de/
http://www.adobe.com/lu_en/
http://www.adobe.com/lu_fr/
or
www.productname.com/country/ index_en.php
index_fr.php
both languages uses the same country subdirectory (/ca ), but a different index_lang.php will be loaded.
So both language versions are reachable via the same url subdirectory.
However, the actual subdirectories are named differently:
e.g. www.domainname.com/ca/imprint or www.domainname.com/ca/legales
Every index_lang.php gets its own XML sitemap for search engines
- What strategy would you prefer? And why?
- Is there a negative impact for the third strategy?
