Structured Data Testing Tool

Does anyone know if the schema creativework element does anything? I see people ranking well in Google who are using it: https://search.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool/u/0/#url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sbpctech.com%2Fcomputer-service%2F Structured Data Testing Tool

  • Jim Munro: Coincidence only I reckon, Chase. BTW did you post this in multiple communities as it was dropped into the spam moderation queue?
  • Kyle Hawk: I would say it's coincidence as well since anyone that takes the time to looking into schema and implement it would probably have some sort of SEO strategy in mind, after all, schema helps search engines understand what your webpage means. So it would only make since that part of a sound SEO strategy would be making sure that search engines are understanding the meaning behind your content.
  • Chase Reiner: +Jim Munro ;no I've only posted it in this community.

and whether this creativework markup is coincidence or not, do you guys think it's best practice for a local business like these to put their content in this type of schema?
  • Chase Reiner: You can clearly see that even in the blog he is putting all of his written content in creativework markup. https://search.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool/u/0/#url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sbpctech.com%2Fcomputer-tips%2Fwindows-10-upgrade%2F
  • Edwin Jonk: I would use LocalBusiness since that is what Google recommends. For articles I would use Artcile.

    - My guess is that the webmaster stopped reading before "More specific Types" on http://schema.org/CreativeWork .

    - Maybe he didn't read https://developers.google.com/search/docs/data-types/articles#article_types and https://developers.google.com/search/docs/data-types/local-businesses.

So no it is not a "best practice" to use Schema CreativeWork. In general, use the more specific one and the ones that are in Google Search Docs.
