Tags vs Categories
Can they be used in the same way? If not why not?

  • Cristian Sepulveda: I use tags, much more flexible than categories.
  • Webado C Webada: If you use too many tags for a post you`re just spamming. If you use too many tags overall you`re spamming. If tags are not reused they are useless and spam. I don`t use tags at all.
  • Jason Bean: I use categories as a holder or container for similar post topics across a single blog. I generally recommend most clients to come up with 6-10 categories max for that site. I believe that provides a good balance between being too specific or too broad for people interested in a single topic. Tags I use most frequently for listing smaller, more granular topic keywords within the same post and most frequently for highlighting in proper nouns mentioned in the post.
  • Eren Mckay: Neil Cheesman Tags will give you duplicate content on your site, so if you use them make sure to have the rel= canonical on the tag pages or else don`t use them at all.
