Do searches in WordPress count as organic search in Google Analytics?

Do searches in WordPress count as organic search in Google Analytics? In GA admin >search sources, no extra search engines are specified, and only external search engines are listed at GA`s list of default search engines. Yet my organic session numbers seem to go up after I do a search and click a result from within WordPress. GA real-time data displays the sessions I initiate from a WordPress search as direct, but still, I see those organic session numbers rise mysteriously.

  • Webado C Webada: No. That`s an internal function from WP, not a Google search.
  • Webado C Webada: You are seeing page hits, that`s all.
  • Webado C Webada: GA sucks at allowing you to identify what`s what.
  • Patty Mantaloons: My organic search numbers seem to rise after I do a WordPress search. If that isn`t what`s affecting it, the only other thing I can think of is a delay in GA from a previous real organic session.
  • Patty Mantaloons: Will run tests at 4am when traffic is down
  • Patty Mantaloons: I`ll check out StatCounter. Are you familiar with Piwik?
  • Webado C Webada: Coincidence.
  • Webado C Webada: I much prefer Statcounter because I get to see each individual hit with all the information that can be gathered from that hit. GA makes pretty reports and charts, but I dare anybody to relate them to actual hits and visitors who made the hits.
  • Webado C Webada: I run both SC and GA but I really check SC because GA is a stew of data.
  • Patty Mantaloons: Will add to this site to compare.
  • Webado C Webada: No but Statcounter is the best out there, the most complete.
  • Devin Peterson: Are you using Google custom search within wp as the search tool? Idk just a thought.
  • Patty Mantaloons: Do you know what the legal implications are of SC`s IP tracking?
  • Webado C Webada: European courts, being clueless, may have stupid issues with that, but the fact remains that IPs are recorded by all servers anyway for each access. Your server logs show them. SC gives you the option to mask IPs which is totally stupid IMO.
