Dumb SEO Questions

(Entry was posted by Alexandre KOWALCZYK on this post in the Dumb SEO Questions community on Facebook, 10/27/2014).

Someone translated one of my articles.

Someone just translated one of my article in chinese and made a link to my original article at the end.

Should I ask it to be removed or is it good?
Can it hurt SEO ranking (duplicate content)   ?
Should I accept or refuse the pingback to appear on my site? ?

  • SEMXE: Ask them to make use of canonical tag on their website with your article's URL in it.
  • Edwin Jonk: Depends on the translation. If it is auto-translated (like Google translate), than it is considered duplicated content. Else if it is unique high quality translation it is not duplicated content.
  • Glenn B: Alexandre, my first thought was "did you ask, or give permission for the translation?" Is this an imposition on your intellectual copyright etc. A few things to consider here. ;
  • Alexandre KOWALCZYK: +Glenn B ;I didn't ask anything and nobody contacted me. I just discovered that someone did it thanks to wordpress pingback. I don't really know what I can do, or how to react.
