Should I use hreflang for a multinational site over TLDs?

Hi everybody, Do you know if someone have to use hreflang for a multinational site over TLDs? The site operates mainly in “example.co.Uk” and its online presence was expanded on “example.de” and “example.es”. Each site is written in a different language accordingly, for instance only English for UK, only Spanish for ES etc.Note: content and layout is the same across all different TLDs sites and rankings for core keywords are in 1-3 positions. Thanks in advance

  • Richard Hearne: HREFLANG is related to language. ccTLD is related to country. Different things. In the case you have outlines, I would use HREFLANG on those ccTLDs for sure.
  • Michalis Apk: Richard Hearne thank you. Even if organic performance is great? Maybe my question wasn’t that clear. There’s no different language variation on each site, they all single language written
  • Richard Hearne: example.co.uk > ENexample.es > ESexample.fr > FRIf you set up HREFLANG correctly across these 3 sites, there is a very strong possibility that you will improve the right language being served to users. It should not result in more traffic, but better traffic if that makes sense. If I was you I`d see how much work is involved with setting it up (it`s deceptively tricky to get working, esp. across multiple domains if different CMS`s), and if you can set it up easily I`d do so.EXAMPLE.CO.UKThe UK Domain | Helping Businesses Achieve More OnlineThe UK Domain | Helping Businesses Achieve More Online
  • Ammon Johns: Sites without HREF lang but with a ccTLD are generally assumed to be designed to serve that market (of the ccTLD). HREFlang is therefore most useful when content is less regional, more universal, and equally valuable to, for instance, French speakers, everywhere. In reality, of course, many of the countries outside of Spain don`t speak quite the same `Spanish`, kind of like how American `English` is very different from English `English`.
  • Michalis Apk: Thanks Ammon Johns - would you go for it? My only concern is the sites are doing bloody great the way they are atm
  • Ammon Johns: Michalis Apk you know the saying: If it ain`t broke, don`t fix it.
  • Michalis Apk: Ammon Johns haha exactly that’s why I’m a bit sceptical have a good weekend
  • Michael Stricker: Michalis Apk what Ammon Johns says, but try to see whether your domains’ Organic Search incoming unique first time visits are bouncing, or how their Conv Rate compares to avg... idea being to discern whether Google has any issues driving the right lingual speakers to their expected domain. If you see any friction or drag there, you’ll know what to do.
