Dumb SEO Questions

(Entry was posted by Marianne Wiest on this post in the Dumb SEO Questions community on Facebook, 03/20/2015).

should I buy domains that match the keywords?

I had a couple of SEO questions.  I`m a photographer and I use a separate website for my clients to order their images from, should I set it up so their galleries are hosted on my websites?  Would those extra clicks help with my seo?   Or does it not matter because they`re not onto my homepage?

Also, should I buy domains that match the keywords I`m trying to rank high on? Like www.kalispellfamilyphotographer.com and then redirect them to my website?  Does that help seo?

Thanks for your help!!?

  • PromozSEO: Redirection of a fresh domain without any content and authority is meaningless and will not help in ranking.
Dwelling time and page views can be a signal but make sure, imageries are not slowing down your site loading.
  • Richard Hearne: I'd consolidate to a single domain if possible, and as +PromozSEO ;says forget about buying/redirecting keyword domains like those mentioned in. Pointless exercise and waste of time/money.
  • Marianne Wiest: thanks guys! saved me some money on domains :)
  • PromozSEO: Welcome..
  • Edwin Jonk: Are those galleries public? Can anybody view those galleries?

Can you give us a link to a (client's) gallery? Because I want to see if those images are indexed by Google.
  • Marianne Wiest: Here's one of my old galleries www.mariannewiest.com/mitchell14 and here's a new gallery http://mariannewiestphotography.pixieset.com/themitchells2014/
  • Edwin Jonk: Both galleries are not in the index. The new gallery has:
    <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow" />
meaning that it will not be in the index nor will it pass any "link value".

So as for SEO, the gallery doesn't give you any value. I guess that is a good thing, since these are pictures for your clients and only people with a direct link should view them.

As a side note. I noticed that your old site is still live. I would 301 redirect them to the new site. For example:
    http://www.mariannewiest.com/gpage.html
    >> 301 >> ;http://mariannewiest.com/prices/
    http://www.mariannewiest.com/contact.html >> 301 >> ;http://mariannewiest.com/contact/
  • Richard Hearne: Remove the NOFOLLOW.  ;That is not going to help you at all.
  • Marianne Wiest: Wow! thanks for your help! ; How do I remove the nofollow?
  • Marianne Wiest: +Richard Hearne
How do I remove the nofollow?
