Safe transition from HTML to Wordpress

ive transferred ALL DATA from html to wordpress - all the images and text are there etc. I just need to make it look pretty now -My questions is - do i need to take 140 pages from old site and create identical site in wordpress with 140 pages to help ensure its a safe transition , and then once that`s gone live i can i can then build a better version with less pages in a staging account for example. or can i instantly go from 140 pages in html to 8 pages in wordpress as long as i 301 everything to relevant places ?

Lisa Brown: So you`re going from 140 pages down to 8? Build those 8 in WordPress and make sure you`ve redirected everything to the appropriate pages on the new site. No need to build all 140 pages out in WordPress first, if you`re not keeping the pages, that`s just extra work.
