Getting a phone number to show up within search result

I finally have a question, and its dumb! Is there a way to get a phone number to show up within an organic result and have a clickable phone number... like a site link? I`ve got a buddy that currently has his phone number stuffed inside his title tag and it looks stupid. iguring there has to be a better solution... like an OG tag maybe?? Thanks for the help!

  • George G.: depends. if you are local business and you make in the map pack, google shows a call button by default and it is clickable.

maybe you can do it with an ad, but i am not an ad expert so somebody else should chime in.
  • Micah Fisher-Kirshner: Ooh... I think this could be possible by using the FAQ scheme markup... Will have to try that out
  • Adam John Humphreys: It would need to be a trackable number to give perspective of what it’s from though.
  • Micah Fisher-Kirshner: Adam John Humphreys so add an extension number on it?
  • Adam John Humphreys: Ya that could also work. Attribution models might be a little off but super worth the experiment to see how much we are actually missing. Hard to know for sure though because Google is forever split testing SERPS.
  • Jason Bean: You want the number clickable in the actual SERP result so that a phone will dial it?
  • Jim Christian: Jason that and/or just a better placement vs having it in the title tag
  • Jason Bean: Jim Christian I`m not sure you`ll get a "tel:" clickable number available in the organic search results. Your best bet is probably to try to get him established and displaying in the maps pack listing. You could do some Google Ads with call extensions enabled for the add as a possible option. For the map listing, you`ll more than likely need to use a specific street address and not a PO Box.

As for visibility of the number itself, you can include it in Title tag, meta description snippet, and potentially try to get some site links displaying for a "Contact Us" internal page.
  • Jim Christian: Thanks! I was afraid those were the only options... I`ll see if he can setup maps somehow.
  • Jim Christian: I’ll also add that the guy is a Magician, and he’s not a traditional “business”, so I’m not sure if he’d setup a google my business profile... though I guess he could with a PO Box or alternate address
  • Adam John Humphreys: I like it on local business, meta description, call tracking on-page with hidden dynamic number ie Call-Rail etc
