Avoiding duplicate penalties with canonical

Hi
I have an article on my site, someone has reached out asking to copy the content for their site. Is there a way for them to do so but set my page up as the canonical for that content to avoid duplicate penalties etc?

  • Miru Mir: Just don’t care, no matter how much they pay you. There’s no “right” way to do it
  • Paul Thompson: They would have to set a canonical link on their page`s pointing back to your page URL. If they use WordPress with one of the better SEO plugins, there`s a box in the page`s settings to do this. But then you also have to continuously monitor their page to make sure they don`t just remove the canonical link later.

But of course the biggest question is: "is there significant business value to YOU to even make this worthwhile? For example, is their website high quality to start with? Is their website audience of significant value to you and will your article be featured prominently and credited to you? Does developing a relationship with this other website owner have other value to you?
  • George G.: get the canonical set up and get a link from the body pointing to you as a source.

Also, there is no such thing as duplicate penalty.
