Penguin Recovery: Should You Be Removing Links or Just Disavowing?

No more link removal emails?

After a great summary of Pengiun and manual versus algorithmic penalty,  Marie Haynes sums up a couple of instances where John Mueller commented on how Google treats the disavow file. And she is more or less telling us to not send link removal emails:

" I do NOT do an email link removal campaign for Penguin-hit sites. In my opinion, the cost and time involved in these campaigns is not worth it considering that for most sites, there is usually a poor response rate to link removal requests "? Jim Munro   I wonder if this is all part of Google realising they had gone too far and pulling back from their link hysteria campaign. I remember the Panel warning some time ago that this link-fear campaign would only end in tears.

Last week I received an email from a representative from a big US brand asking to remove a link from dumbseoquestions.com. That is messed up.

BTW I replied that we wouldn`t do this because of policy but didn`t mention that they were the first that this policy had been applied to. :)? Penguin Recovery: Should You Be Removing Links or Just Disavowing?
