  • Todd Weise: Alt text should be descriptive of the image for those who have to use screen readers. Google wants you to build your sites for your users. If you can naturally include the keywords in those descriptions do so.
  • Jordan T. Hamasaki: awesome thanks. Some of my pictures are pretty plain, example just a picture of the product not a lifestyle picture. The keywords i want to try to rank for are more descriptive example: Shoes for hiking in the winter.Would it be natural to have the alt text for plain white background images to be descriptive in that sense?
  • Todd Weise: Jordan T. Hamasaki also I believe the only benefits are really for image searches not traditional
  • Michael Martinez: Use captions and image titles to add contextual information to images. By "title", I mean a human-readable label placed above the image (like an H4 or H5, or a custom/bespoke element). Use "figcaption" to add a caption to an image.
  • Jordan T. Hamasaki: what if these images are product images, so they won`t have text around them?
  • Michael Martinez: Jordan T. Hamasaki ALT= text should describe the image. To be honest, I`ve never seen a product image without some kind of accompanying text. Not always in captions but I don`t know of any reason NOT to use captions with product images.
  • Richard Hearne: No. Yes.
