  • Michael Chapman: Are you saying you have multiple instances of Wordpress installed?
  • chris burgos: yes ...im doing it for each sub page with a specific location locksmith-pa com/collegeville
  • chris burgos: it ranks a lot better that way..
  • Michael Chapman: Having multiple Wordpress installs will not effect your ranking in anyway, however it is very odd.

    The exact same effect can be created using just the one instance of Wordpress. ;
  • chris burgos: when i use wordpress on the sub page it has its own side bar, contact info / face book page/ google plus page i see a big jump in rankings ive done 3 so far and there ranking 1, 3 , and 4 on a google search.
  • Michael Chapman: You can do that on just the one installation directory though, using widgets and a theme with a sidebar across it's pages.

    It's not going to hurt you, it's just not the typical way of doing things.  ;If it works it works. ;
  • W.E. Jonk: I noticed that you have a page for every local area. However they are all duplicates [1]. This is not best practise. Best is to serve your content on one URL.

    It is fine to have specific pages for areas, however you need to provide unique/high quality content. A good guidance is to ask yourself the 23 questions for every page [2].

    I also noticed some pages that some pages aren't done yet [3]. I guess you are still in a test-fase? ;

    It might be better to noindex before going live [4]. In general, you need to be very careful with pages that have little or no original content because you might get hit with a manual penalty [5].

    Finally you are probably aware that locksmiths do have bad name in the online world and personally I wouldn't be surprised if G is taking a closer look at locksmith sites. And, thereby, you need to step up your game to prove to G that you are the best locksmith in that area.

    P.S. you have a banner on top of every page which is a background image [6]. That image holds important information or data, like your phone number. Best practise is to serve text in HTML and not in an image because G doesn't use OCR to make images machine readable [7]. Furthermore if you use HTML you can markup your contact information [8].

    With regard to multiple WP installs. It doesn't really matter, however it might be easier to maintain one WP install. And, thereby, you save time to optimise your site ;-)...
  • Justin Y: +chris burgos
    For the different sidebars you're referring to with each wp installation, you can simply use the dynamic widgets plugin on a single WP install and achieve the same. There's no need to install WP 3+ times, the dynamic widgets plugin will allow you to select which widgets to show on the pages, posts, cats etc that you choose.
    There are other plugins as well, but if you want to make things easier I'd stick to one install.
  • chris burgos: do you know the name of the widget
  • Justin Y: +chris burgos it's a plugin that you will need to install called "Dynamic Widgets".
  • chris burgos: thank you
  • Justin Y: Np!
