  Ken Rohrer: Is anyone else seeing a huge drop in traffic today? (Friday, March 14) If I'm the only one that means I've been hit with some kind of algorithm change.

  Radha wls: Hey Ken, if ;it is a drastic fall, then you need to surely look into this. If it is a sudden drop, then it is definitely due to penalty

  Ken Rohrer: It's a sudden drop of 35% but I checked my Google webmaster tools inbox and I have not received any notices of a penalty.

  Radha wls: If your website has been subjected to manual action, then it will be notified in Webmaster tools. In case of algorithmic penalty, there will be no notification in Webmaster. You can identify that by drop in traffic. It is better that you analyze the backlinks to your website before it gets any manual action message from webmasters

  Radha wls: Also, check for the content quality of your web pages. Content is also one of the major factors which determines the ranking of your website. You need to update your webpage with high quality content.

  David Harry: Yea, the main point is that with forensics we never make assumptions. From server issues, to changes by the dev team, to multiple algorithmic changes, to dampeners and penalties to changes in how Google treats a query space, to things competitors might be doing. Or in a lot of cases, multiples of the above. One has to work through it to sort out what's happening ;)
