Dumb SEO Questions

(Entry was posted by Search Engine Optimization Tips & Techniques on this post in the Dumb SEO Questions community on Facebook, 03/21/2014).

I have not received any penalty or manual action message from Google on my webmaster account.

Hi Friends,

I am facing an issue with one of my client`s website. At the start of this week i figured out that some URL`s of my client`s website have disappeared from Google search ( they are no more indexed). Apparently for the keywords those pages were ranking, now home page of the website is ranking (some position down the actual URL rank).

I have not received any penalty or manual action message from Google on my webmaster account, also did a backlink analysis for the URL`s and there are not many backlinks for these URL`s.

I also checked my robots file and individual pages at Meta Robots level but everything seems to be fine. Pages are not blocked through any medium.

So just want to know how should i approach this issue, also if i have to contact Google to know the reason, how can i do it?

Some sub-domains of my client`s website received manual actions message from Google, so can the drop for my section be because of that??

  • Mike Cooke: Guest blogging looks like Google is hitting it this week and the drop in pages could something to do with that or over optimisation possibly. i would take one of the pages that has vanished and check = and do a link audit on the entire site. Good luck dude
  • Search Engine Optimization Tips & Techniques: +Mike Cooke ;Thanks mike, we have done an audit for our subsection of the website and already submitted a request to disavow links which we find are not relevant to the site.

    Over optimization does not seems to be the scene as those pages were having good ranking for some good number of months. ;
  • Mike Cooke: interesting do you have conflicting pages on the site with similar content that is diluting the rankings?
  • Search Engine Optimization Tips & Techniques: +Mike Cooke ;yes there might be one reason that URL's which have disappeared have similar kind of URL where at the end of the URL omniture tags are listed....
