I`m not getting ranked for my keyword

Hey all, my blog site is only 11 months old, when I write a post, most times it seems I`m not getting ranked for the keyword I`m writing for, I`ve manage to get maybe 20% since I started and when I do I`m no where to be seen on Google. I do do all the onpage SEO but don`t get anywhere. So if I`m writing on the latest trend by the time I get any ranking the trends already over. Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated. TIA
