Backlinks from unknown sites

How prevalent are negative seo attacks? I have no idea why I`m getting 70 backlinks from a site called cyberspaceandtime dot comI don`t get it, but Google might have downgraded my site because of it. Do people hire them like hitmen?...lol

  • Michael Martinez: I don`t think it`s a negative SEO attack. Could be a phishing site. Looks like autogenerated mush pages. Probably won`t hurt to disavow. I doubt the links are hurting your site but it does look creepy.
  • Ted Rinshed: Is it easy to disavow?
  • Michael Martinez: Ted Rinshed You need to be logged into the Google`s Search Console (or at least a Google account which is associated with the Website in GSC). Then visit this link. https://www.google.com/webmas.../tools/disavow-links-main... Basically you upload a text file. In this case I would just specify the domain name (follow the directions carefully).
  • Michael Martinez: Ted Rinshed It`s not an irrevocable decision. You can remove the file at any time.
  • Travis Bailey: You probably won`t take an algorithmic hit from so few links, especially if they aren`t money keywords. I don`t care to visit the site ATM, as I`m on my Windows drive (I keep Windows, and Linux on separate HDs. Then I boot the one I choose to keep Windows from mucking up a standard dual boot.). More than likely the site was scraped, and the content wound up on some spammy domain.

Michael`s take is solid. You can always disavow. Especially these days, as the Penguin portion of the algo is real time. So you won`t likely have to wait around for another Penguin-ish update to lift any penalty.

But again, it`s likely of little consequence from what you`ve stated.
