How to compete with Newspaper Sites?

Hi,
In my very narrow business  niche, for important keywords,  in the first 10 (SERP rank) positions  are only press articles from newspapers or transcripts from TV shows.

I`m trying for more than 6  months to compete with these websites but it`s impossible because they have way more many back links than me and their mentions on social sites and local news is huge.

How to compete with them?

Thank you,
Gabriel Part

  • Dave Elliott: target longer tail keywords.
  • Rotimi Orimoloye (Orims): Like Dave Elliott said above. ^^

    Don't compete with newspapers. It will always be an uphill struggle.
    And even when think about it, they have more right to rank on Search than you do. :)

    You should do a keyword research to find out what other keywords the people who are searching for your keywords are also looking at. Some of these will not be targeted by newspapers because they tend to go after more generic terms. ;

    But my best tip will be, get a Google search box within your site to harvest richer keywords. :)
