How do you Silo your site structure?

Saw this question on another group thought I would ask here to see what you guys think.

How do you Silo your site structure? Do you do page and then categories? What is the best practice for a silo structure? Eg. I have pages for Home Decor, Organizing, and Lifestyle... then I made categories to go under those pages...such as my Home Decor has a DIY, Home decor, and how to paint.... I am a bit confused about this whole silo thingy.

  • Michael Martinez: I would say the whole silo thingy has gotten confused over the past 20 years. Any CMS that organizes content the way WordPress does automagically handles the "siloing" for you. You need to do something extra to break the categorization. I think the important thing is to make your categorization distinctive. Don`t use variations on phrases for multiple categories. Pick one and let the articles within that category implement the variations.
  • John Smith: Just make it natural.... if you write about doors, you will mention french doors, front doors, sliding doors and so on.....link each word(or whatever) to article about french doors, front doors, sliding doors and there you go, SILO 🥳🥳
  • John Smith: Point is about how you link them later, from each article to your money page, or just from one silo page to your money page(but that page will have power from all other pages)....
  • John Smith: Just realized, I didn’t explain last part properly....(but that silo page will have power-backlinks from all other silo pages, and than link just from that “main” silo page to your money page)....in the meantime you build links to all of your silo pages.........hope it helps....... maybe someone has some better explanation...
